Blog week day 2- Tidy mind, tidy stitches

Today's topic is all about yarn stash. I don't really feel the need to have a giant yarn stash, in fact it gets me worried about moths. However, I do seem to acquire yarn faster than I knit, so a stash I have. s It used to look like this: s

But I got some bigger boxes and had a tidy and now it looks more like this:

It does not exactly support my argument that I don't stash, but in my defence the middle box is shop stock, the bottom one is raw fleece so only the top box is actually yarn stash.

s

In fact, it is a little better since I have had a sort out and got rid of some of the stuff I would never use. I have also created a big bag of part balls and yarn scraps and am making lots of little projects like this and this between my A-Z socks. That yarn stash box is currently about half full.

s

I have joined in Tami's yarn diet, which means one yarn purchase (of any size) per month from January to June.

s

Most of the rest has a project planned for it, I just can't keep up!

  1. That yarn diet sounds harsh, but your stash looks wonderfully orgainised.

  2. Those Really Useful Boxes really live up to their name, don't they! I use them all over the house, although I don't have enough yarn to warrant special yarn storage boxes yet.

  3. Hmm.. would "one yarn purchase" account for things like Sheep and Wool festivals? I'm actually thinking of skipping MD Sheep and Wool this year because I simply don't need any more yarn or fibre!

  4. That sounds like the worst kind of diet ever =[ XD

  5. Oooh. This photo just gave me the best idea. (and makes me feel like a bonehead, too) I've got my yarn sitting in bags in an ugly cardboard box in the living room when there is a perfectly useful (and recently emptied... thanks dh!) Really Useful Plastic Bin in the other room just sitting there!

:) Thanks for your post. Don't know why yours was the tipping point for me. I've seen several posts today with similar photos. But thanks anyway.

  6. I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets moth nervous. After hearing some horror stories, I've become slightly paranoid. :P
