FO Friday- Testing testing

The FOs keep getting smaller, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks that will change, I have some bigger projects planned that I am excited about and looking forward to sharing.

Look, I swatched!

I know, right?! I am counting it as a FO as technically I finished it, sort of. I might have got bored and only made half a swatch, but it was big enough to check gauge. The sweater is now on the needles, it will be a slow going one as it is fingering weight on 3.5mm needles.

There was a very exciting delivery this week. Three fleeces from my parent's sheep went off the be processed. They arrived back as a HUGE box, filled with lovely clean fibre. (Please excuse the background mess).

Much easier (although more expensive) than washing it and carding it by hand.

Of course I had to try some out. My wheel is occupied so I drop spindled a thin single then handy plied it to make a 2 ply that is a bit thicker than fingering weight, sportish I guess. There is about 10g, just enough to test. Before and after, well actually after and before, but never mind.

White fibre is not easy to photograph with a flash.

Yarn close up.

I can count this as a real FO as I even washed and whacked it.

The fleece was from Suffolk breed sheep, so is not the softest fibre, but is beautifully sproingy and seems to have a low tickle factor (why yes, that is a scientific term, cough cough). I can see it making amazing sweaters and socks. Can't wait to spin some more!

  1. oooh, that fleece looks yummy to spin and the yarn looks squishy. I would love to get my hands on that. Lucky you! I've been gauge swatching too. It's a pain but saves a lot of heartache in the end.
