I said no...

..and I liked it.

Not to yarn, of course not!

To someone who rang up and said "I know you knit". Uh oh, you know where this is heading.

Yup that's right.

"Can you make a stripy where's wally hat? By Thursday (this was last night, so 24 hours really to hand it over for wearing on Thursday morning). For someone who doesn't actually like fancy dress."

"Um, no, sorry, it would take about ten hours and I just don't have the time." I actually said that.

What I should have said was Bwaha ha ha ah aha ha aha!

But my polite upbringing came out (darn it!).

I do actually like to make requests, that way you know the person will like what you are giving them. But maybe I should start to say I like making reasonable requests.

  1. I think that's a very proper response. People need to understand what they're asking for.

    Good for you!

  2. Congrats! Wish I could learn to say no. I have a mountain of requests to get through at the moment.

  3. Haha, I have laughed. A lady wants me to knit her socks. It's like she hasn't heard me bellyache over the two pair I have knitted. Good for you, being polite.

  4. I think you handled the request way better than I would have. Isn't it funny how non-knitters assume you can just whip something up spur of the moment? Good for you for saying No! :)

  5. that's definitely a great way to handle a request like that - I know I would be really really annoyed if someone asked for a hat in that amount of time.
