FO Friday- Swirling mitts

After frogging the cowl last week I decided not to remake it, I am not keen on repeating patterns so wanted to try something different. Finding patterns for a single 50g ball of DK can be a bit tricky, even with the help of Ravelry's awesome pattern database. In the end I settled on some mitts with a cabled pattern.

Yarn: RYC extra fine merino
Needles: 3.75
Notes: cast off/on 6 sts for thumb hole, extra half inch of length at each end.

This is a super pattern, straight forward and easy to work up. Each mitt is cabled in the opposite direction to make mirror image patterns, but you only need to learn one cable move for each hand, it is super simple. I did find ticking the pattern row off on the chart to be helpful as different numbers of cables are worked as you go up the hand. Instructions are included for working the mitts flat or in the round.

I do think the thumb hole could do with being a little larger, I cast off one extra stitch and it is still rather stretched out around the base of the thumb, 7 or 8 sts would be better.

The yarn is gorgeous, it was and end of line sale bin bargain, which is why I only had one ball. It is lovely and smooth, but soft. The stitch definition is great too which is helpful with cables.

Adding a little length to each end made for a better fit, and used up almost all of the yarn, just a tiny bit leftover.

A closer cable shot.
