FO Friday- Nessie

I am going to start today's post by apologising for the lousy pictures, just like the real Nessie she is suprisingly hard to photograph!

Yarn: Green Yarn Yard Croft held double, overdyed purple Arucania Ranco
Needles: 2.25mm dpns (although it is actually knit flat with short row shaping.
Mods: Lots!

The belly was a nightmare, you are meant to pick up stitches from tail to chin and work it across, after trying four times I managed it, but when I came to graft it together it made the neck twist, and not just a little bit, right round Exorcist style! So I ripped it out and made a separate belly section, details of what I did are on my Ravelry project page.

I also made a mistake on the fins but it turned out ok so I repeated the mistake on all of them plus made the back fins smaller. Those details are on my project page too.

This was meant to be a scrap down, it did use up some sock yarn leftovers but it was definitely not a quick project, I am pleased with how she came out though so she is now standing guard over my fish tank.

FO Friday- C socks

Another letter down in the A-Z sock knitting, I am loving this challenge! (sorry about the rubbish pictures, they were taken inside as it has been raining here)

These are a super easy knit, the patterning is all done with knit and purl stitches so they go quickly. It is probably the simplest knit in the book (Sock innovation by Cookie A), there are some seriously complicated patterns in there!
s
The yarn is not the softest but still nice and I suspect will get softer with washing. It would perhaps have been better knit on 2.25mm needles, I like a denser sock but the pattern is only given in one size (probably the main flaw of this book is a shortage of sizes). Admittedly it could be up sized without too much difficulty, but I was in the mood for straight from the pattern knitting.
s
I didn't really do or watch any one thing while making these, which makes subtitling them harder. Therefore they are going to be the very non excitingly named "Hunt for the perfect sock part 2".
s
Although I have been making socks for a while I have yet to find the perfect fit, the heel flap often slides under my foot which can be annoying. It means I wear hand knits with shoes (holds the heel flap in place) and shop bought when I am wandering about in my socks. If I am making 26 pairs of socks I am going to wear them, and wear them a lot!
s
Part one of trying to find a good fit was a deeper heel flap, the B socks were also larger around but ribbed (that was the pattern). Still not perfect so this time I have gone for longer feet figuring if the foot is too short it will pull the heel flap under. This means these socks have amusingly long feet- usually I get bored on the foot so this could well be the issue. It seemed to work yesterday, but I was wearing shoes so have yet to put them to the real test. I am going to try a short row heel at some point too.

Apologies for the rather long sock fitting based post, more pictures and less rambling tomorrow I promise.
