FO Friday- Little Owl

I did make a project last weekend that I had hoped to share today, although I was not good at choosing something that could be finished in two days so it took a little longer. It is almost done, just the ends to weave in but I am somewhat undecided about it and might end up frogging it. If I keep it I will show it next Friday.

I don't think I have shared this on a FO Friday, I had a quick check and can't see a post about it, but if I have please just look at the cute.

Pattern: Owl Puffs by Jenna Krupar
Yarn: Wendy Sorrento, leftovers from stash, just a tiny amount in each colour
Needles: 2.5mm dpns

A lovely simple pattern, quick to make with a very cute outcome.

I am not great at embroidery, especially on knitted surfaces so if I made the pattern again I would maybe make a felt beak, if the base yarn was wool you could needle felt the beak and eyes on.

Year of project update- In which there is an owl

Anyone who visited last week might be expecting to see a freshly dyed pile of yarn this week. Unfortunately the dye I ordered didn't arrive in time, so I will be dyeing it up this week and hopefully sharing it next Sunday.

I wanted something to share, so I worked up one of my teeny tiny pattern choices, Oisin owl by Pauline Gallagher is a speedy little project that only uses a tiny bit of yarn. Cabling and Irish moss stitch make two panels that you sew together to give a little 3D owl, he is about 3 inches tall.

I think I need to embroider some eyes on to make it more obvious that he is an owl, rather than a swimming costume for a barbie which was suggested by someone.

Scrap down- Owl mug cosy

This is the last item coming from my brown Super Alpaca, there is only the tiniest of amounts left, literally a few metres, so it has been added to my bag of tiny scraps that will one day probably be donated somewhere for use in craft projects (sticking to pictures etc)

For the most recent £5 UK swap I decided to make an owl mug cosy. The pattern is Ho(o)t Coffee by Dixie Norton, except I didn't do the base bit, I just cast on at the 63 sts point and worked from there. Only I didn't read the pattern properly and worked K2pP2 rib so I cast on 64 sts. It was ok, I got rid of the extra stitch when I cast off for the bit under the handle. I should have kept it as one of the purl panels is 6sts wide and the others 7sts wide, I would prefer them all to match. It also worked out a bit oddly on the ribbing at the top- note to self, read patterns before working.

Still, the owls are very cute, there are lots of patterns with this little cabled owl, he is very simple to make. I am not sure I would want to work any of the bigger patterns as sewing on a lot of eyes would require a lot of sewing in ends or a single strand worked all the way across the back of the piece, but that is just my laziness and dislike of finishing up.

Cosy in situ (sorry about the rubbish lighting):

I hope my swapee likes it!
