Yarn along/WIP

This week I can join in with these link aprties again, because I actually have a project to show and have been reading a book.

The project is a slipper. I bought some leather slipper soles from Regia and am using the Wonder Why alpaca/merino that I spun during the tour de fleece to knit the upper boot bot that you sew on. I may have to use something else for the bottom of the boot as I think I will run out, this is good as it means I can stash dive. It is knitting up beautifully, it is so soft and has even coped with being ripped out twice. I can't wait to wear these.

The book is a bit of background reading for my new job. That's right I have a new job, wahooo! I have not finished my PhD yet, but need something to help pay the bills *cough cough fund pretty yarn purchases* while I finish writing up, so when my riding instructor said she was looking for someone to do a few hours in the week I snapped the offer up. It still leaves plenty of time for uni work so it is perfect. Might cut into the knitting time though :(.

I didn't start learning to ride until I was 24, so I missed out on all the pony club knowledge and had a bit of a panic on Monday night that all I knew how to do was sit on a horse and point it in vaugely the right direction. I picked up this book from The Works (sidenote- see how that shop comes up a lot? I love bargain books!) and had a bit of a read through which helped a lot. At least I didn't turn up feeling like I knew nothing, still lots to learn though!

The book is good, lots of colour pictures and loads of information. It does focus on the riding information, which is handy and I will have a proper read through of that later, but there is a little care and stable management info too.

Yesterday was my first day, it went well, at least I asusme it did, I was told I could go back today, so that is a good sign :D

  7. I've been having technical difficulties for the last few weeks, so I just spend a lovely time catching up with your posts. :-)

I'm totally envious of your new job with horses and frankly that you are also taking riding lessons. One day for me, one day...

Also totally impressed with your schedule... let's see, PhD Candidate, Horse Person, Knitter Person, Spinner, Wool Washer and time for reading for pleasure. Yep. Impressed. :-)

  8. If you're invited back for a second day, that's always a good sign. Lovely that your own handspun is knitting up so beautifully!

  10. Congrats on your new job. It sounds like fun. I love riding horses through wooded trails. Haven't done it in 30 years though.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on the slipper. Target sells those knitted slippers with the soles. I was wondering where I could just get the soles and do my own knitting.
