Adventures in colourwork- part two

The continental knitting and colourwork trial runs have been working up to this, the sock of the month for September- Rubber ducky socks!
s
The duck pattern is taken from the pattern Rubber duck socks by Renate Nilsen. I added a blue stitch to form an eye in the centre of the head and am working top down rather than bottom up.

The colourwork is very slow going, each row of ducks took much more than an hour but I think I am getting the hang of it now.
s
I have checked the fit and it will go over my foot, some of the floats on the back could do with being a little looser though so I need to work on that. I added an extra 8 stitches to the sock circumference as the first try was rather tight and a struggle to fit, this is equivalent to one extra duck.

The heel and toe will be yellow and the foot plain blue.

  4. I see it and it's adorable!

I'm afraid of color work and lace knitting mainly because they both require patience and concentration of which I lack in both. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished socks. Interesting about adding the extra 8 stitches. With the color work, you HAVE to take that into consideration which can make it tricky if you are in between.

    Thank you for sharing.

  5. Those are going to be awesome socks! I do enjoy colorwork but it is a challenge getting your tension just right. Can't wait to see how they turn out. Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. It is tough to get tension right in colorwork, especially on something that needs to stretch like a sock.
I'm so impressed that you've jumped right in and are doing such a fantastic job! Adorable duckies!

  8. Colorwork can be so tricky - keeping the tension is the hardest part. It does feel like it takes forever when you first start, but I always find that the further I get into the piece, the more smoothly it all goes.
Can't wait to see the finished piece!
