FO Friday- Little mittens

Mittens with thumbs were requested by my small niece. Although I am not too keen on knitting kids things as they grow so quickly I agreed to these, they are a nice quick knit after all.

Pattern: Heart Strings Mittens by Crystal Guistinello

The purple yarn was supplied (part of the deal), it was chosen by my niece, although I suspect my sister had some input. I can't find the ball band at the minute so can't do a proper review. It is a nice 4 ply in a lovely shade of purple though. The blue sparkly mitten was some leftover Regia 4 ply. I figured mittens don't have to match.

The pattern is super, simple but effective. These are are very quick to make. I did work the whole mitten including cuff on 3mm needles though rather than starting on smaller needles and increasing. I also did five rounds before the thumb gusset rather than three. I suspect the i-cord will be sewn on rather than attached with buttons, I think it would keep coming apart if you just button it on. I left that for my sister to do as she can check the cords are the right length.

They fitted and my niece seemed happy with them, so a win there I think.

Scrap down- scratch mitts

It has been a few eeks since I posted a scrap down, lots of toehr projects have been gettin in the way and my bag of part balls has been getting ever fuller.



I made these a few weeks ago with the yarn left voer from the blue blueberry socks.

Pattern: Baby Mittens by Malin Nilsson
Yarn: Regia silk
Needles: 2.5mm
Mods:

10 rnds rib
25 rnds plain
2 plain rnds between decreases
No I cord as people in the know said not to

There was not a lot of yarn leftover by the time I had done the socks and a blanket square, but I just managed to make them. They might be a little small, in which case they will go to a preemie hospital.

FO Friday- Flip top mitts and a University square

My stash clear out is turning up quite a few pairs of balls in yummy yarns. This time it was the turn of the Super alpaca (da da da daaaa!). It is gorgeous, so soft and squishy and yum. I tried to draw you an alpaca in a cape, but my drawing skills are not good so I left it off the post. Also look for the very cross cat on the label for added laughs.

The pattern is Fingerless Gloves/Glittens by Dawn Beck. I did fiddle with the lengths of each knitted section a bit to make them fit as I wanted.

I got half way round the first row of little finger on the first mitten when I remembered I had said I was not making anything with digits ever again (after the toe socks). It is a bit like hedgehog wrestling, that said the mittens were not too bad to do. It may have been due to the thicker yarn. But twelve ends to sew in per mitten- ugh!

In other fibrey news- the lid on my stash box now closes, I bought a bigger box :D. It was at the almost closing stage but I decided I wanted something with a more mothproof lid just in case and accidentally (he he) bought a bigger tub.

I also got my first "you should sell those" about some handknit socks. As ever the person suggesting it wanted me to sell then for diddly squat, I did try to explain, but he just was not convinced. I shall be keeping my socks.

The square for this week is another made from UK RAK yarn, so I have no idea what it is. By coincidence it is in my University colours so I may have to find out; I would love to graduate (fingers crossed) in a pair of hand knitted Uni colour socks.
