4KCBWDAY2 A mascot project

Today is, as the title suggests, about a mascot for your chosen house.

Searching for "bee" on the Ravelry pattern database gives a long list of possibles. I have a couple of bee related patterns in my Ravelry queue, so I thought I would link to those.

Free bee by Aoibhi Ni, a soft toy bee. This would make a good mobile/hanging decoration.

The Bumblebee socks by The Needle Lady. This is an amazing pattern for socks with colourwork bees on. And it is free! I want to try this one soon.

They were in my favourites before this week, I have a few more in there now!

I have also made the bzzz hat for queen bees but no pictures as it was in my pre Rav/blog days when I didn't feel the need to photograph all the things.

I have an idea for a bee related pattern, it will be based on the "waggledance", the dance that bees do to tell the others where the best flowers can be found. It will be socks, with cables (because I love socks). I want to find some rich honey coloured yarn to make them in. Will have to get on with this now as I have put it out here in blogland for all to see!

Since this is something of a thought based exercise I don't have any pictures to share, so here is a picture of a butterfly from my garden last year. Not a bee, but it does have wings and is found outside.

As always, search 4KCBWDAY2 for more mascot based fun.

  1. I love the concept of using the dance as the basis for socks! You should definitely look into this.

  2. Beautiful butterfly. I am also searching for bee projects and a bit behind with my post. I did spend ages yesterday searching my pics as I know I have a bee in there somewhere but it seems to be in hiding. LOL Off to check out your links now. Looking forward to seeing your sock pattern emerge. Hugs xoxo
