FO Friday- Sung stripes, hot water bottle cover

I only knitted a couple of gifts this year. I always end up adding a last minute knitted gift in the week or two before Christmas. This year it was a hot water bottle cover.

Pattern: Snug by Fiona Hamilton-MacLaren
Yarn: Wendy Sorrento in teal and tan
Needles: 3.5mm circular, worked magic loop

I couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I made one up. The link above takes you to the Ravelry page, the pdf will be up in the next few days.

The cover is worked in the round, from a Judy's magic cast on bottom. Half way down the back there is an opening to make it easier to get the bottle in. An opening at the neck makes for speedy filling.

The yarn used is one of my favourite non wool yarns. It is a cotton and acrylic blend that is unbelievably soft. Perfect for this project (not wool was specified by the gift recipient, but it is a great choice for anyone).

To help hold the opening closed I added a strip of velcro on the back. This is some amazing low snag velcro that I found. It doesn't catch on knitting, totally amazing! (I guess it would catch on very fine or fluffy yarns, but it works well with this).

  2. I love Judy's magic cast on ... I used it for a purse once, and I was so pleased it with, I use it every chance I get!
