FO Friday- Electric 80s socks

Shield your eyes!

Ok, so because of the lack of natural daylight they don't look so bright, but in real life they really are.

After the madness of the A-Z KAL challenge last year the UK sock knitters group have picked a calmer KAL for this year. Each month a British designer and a UK indie dyer have been chosen. You make a pattern from the designer, or in the yarn, or both. Cast on in the specific month but no end date.

For February the yarn theme was "secret santa swap yarn". Pretty much what it says on the tin there. Use the yarn you received in the secret santa swap. I had some Krafty Koala yarn in the colourway electric 80s. Not a colourway I would have picked for myself, but not bad for socks. It has a sort of self striping effect.

Aside from the chunky yarn slippers I made no socks in January and by the end of the month was pining for sockiness. In the spirit of keeping it simple and choosing something quick to work I opted for a plain vanilla sock with an afterthought heel. Sometimes knitting round and around in circles is just what you need.

They are a little loose really, could have reduced the stitch count or used a smaller needle. I wonder if the tightness of my stitches has changed. I used to be a tight knitter but perhaps I have loosened up?

  1. They look pretty good to me. I have still not tried knitting socks and I have been knitting for about 30 years. I have made bootees and socks with two needles but never tried making them properly. Love the idea of knitting with a group. Sounds like fun.

  3. I think they are fun. I love wearing wild socks with my "conservative" work clothes.
