Year of projects- In which I have a sock leg and am posting late

There has been some progress on my knee high socks. I am working the calf shaping and so far it is going well. It works up fairly quickly because of the thick yarn and large needles (relatively speaking, in the world of socks 3.75mm are large!)

Shown with the decorative cuff folded over the funtional ribbing this time.

I have tried these on and have to admit they are not hugely flattering (remember shire horse not thoroughbred legs). However, they are for wearing in welly boots so no one will see them.

My YOP choices seem to be turning into process projects, where I want to make a pattern (Hemlock ring) or type of project (knee high socks) and I am not overly interested in what comes out at the end. I will try to choose my next project more carefully so that I love the process and the finished object.

  1. That decorative cuff is really cute :) Is it supposed to peek over the top of the wellies?

  2. Your socks look very nice and should be great under the wellies.

  3. I was just thinking this morning about my "sturdy" ankles as I made the heel flap on my sock a bit longer than directed. No thoroughbred legs here either. I really like the look of your socks, and might just knit a pair for myself. I especially like the thought of 3.75mm needles!

  4. I probably would need to make socks like leg warmers with feet. Is there such a thing? LOL!

  5. The decorative fold is beautiful, looks very involved. You're doing a wonderful job. Thanks for the visit and nice comments, appreciate it.

  6. Love the sock top. I can just see it over the top of the wellies. How attractive it will be. Don't worry, I have not seen a lot of thoroughbred legs around lately. Lots of Shire and Morgans though.

  8. Your socks seem far to pretty to be hidden underneath a pair of wellies, unless as others have asked they fold over the top of a lovely pair of hunters. The sock pattern I am using was a free pattern on Rav called Lace Socks by triumph. Got to say they are a bit of a triumph as I think most things would have been totally over my head (or under my foot?) I did spend a little time reading about how easy other people said they were before I started!

  9. I love your socks, haven't tried any yet myself and am terrified of them, but do love to see others making them up.
