Year of the sock, September- One and two half socks

The plan for this month's socks was to do colourwork rubber duckies. This was my first colourwork project and it turns out socks may not have been the place to start! The pattern is Rubberduck Socks by Renate Nilsen using some hand dyed yarn.
The duckies are quite sweet, but they are a struggle to get on, and in close up they are quite puckered- I think all my wraps were too tight. I used the short row heel instructions from Eskimimi's blog, I quite like the method, and it looks better than a heel flap for two coloured socks.

Being extra generous with the stitch count on the leg part to allow for the colourwork also made the foot a little loose.

The result of all these issues is only one sock is finished, it is in a time out while I decide to keep it and make its partner or rip it out and start all over again (but looser).
So I had a pair of socks to count for September I whipped these sockettes up. By happy coincidence I have a pair of shoes that require them. The pattern is Ballet School Dropout Sockettes by Inspire Knits. I used Regia Hand dye effect yarn on 3mm needles and altered the sizing a little to suit the thicker yarn and my feet. I could have gone a little deeper and shorter but they do the job nicely.

The little extra flap at the back stops the heel rubbing.
