FOs- Cross stitch and a lot of squares

Still working my way through the show entry FOs, this week it is a cross stitch piece. I used to do a fair bit of cross stitch when I was younger, but now would much rather spend the time knitting. Aside from anything else I never know what to do with the finished piece- you can only hang so many up. In the interests of entering as much as possible I dug out my box of embroidery threads.

I used the owl pattern available at the crossed wing collection website and added a moon by drawing round a bottle onto squared paper. The pattern works on linen but I used a black cross stitch fabric.

Not the greatest photo, never used black as a background before but I think I prefer it to white or cream.
The box of threads has been tucked away again, it might make a reappearance for next year although the competition was very stiff, big pieces with a lot of hours in so I might gracefully bow out and stick to knitting.

As always a sock yarn blanket update. I had another package of sock yarn RAK'd to me, lots of different ones so I have started a line of them, five squares for this week (the diagonal edge in the photo), the green at the bottom is my favourite.
I also got some end sewing in done. I like to do them in pairs as I tie a small knot. I know knots are not popular but I have found a neatly tied reef knot sits flat under the ridges on the back, meaning you can't feel it. It also adds a bit of security and pulls the squares together a little. Managed to get all the workable pairs done, it took me the entire length of the film Avatar one evening this week!

  1. I haven't cross stitched in years...I like the owl. Beautiful! I really like your quilt and thank you for showing a bit more of it today.
